Platinum One Destinations – A Contrarian’s View of the Business

There are more than a few people on the web who are aggressively pitching Platinum One Destinations (P1D) as a business opportunity. There’s nothing wrong with that, P1D makes and excellent business for a lot reasons. But I don’t promote or actively publicize P1D strictly as a business opportunity or right out of the gate.

(BTW, there are also lots of other people aligned with different travel opportunities who are on the web and have axes to grind because P1D is understandably cutting into their business. These folks don’t have much that’s nice to say about P1D. You decide for yourself.)

You’re reading this page because you sought it out and choose to. I didn’t push it out towards you or send it to you. My reasons for NOT doing so are quite deliberate. For myself, I find it better not to do things the same way that everyone else is doing them.

The simple truth is, I believe that the best people to run a P1D business are people who have experienced the service and use the membership themselves.

Additionally, as good as the service is, P1D isn’t for everyone. It is the premier travel planning service, the Neiman Marcus and the Porsche of its class. Not everyone shops at Neiman Marcus or drives a Porsche, but those folks who do know why they do. And frankly, they aren’t overly concerned with those who don’t.

Likewise, I’m only interested with like-minded individuals who use the Platinum One Destinations membership themselves. This gives me the advantage because I’m not competing directly with everyone else and not just other P1D business owners. I’m pitching a valuable, respected product, not just another run-of-the-mill, make-a-million-dollars biz op.

My marketing strategies are unique as is my well-defined target demographic. I know exactly who I’m selling to. That’s how I prefer to do business and it’s the superior way as far as I’m concerned.

Discover Platinum Card

Discover Platinum Card is one of the cash reward credit cards operated by Discover Financial Services, a business unit of Morgan Stanley. The card offers a number of benefits to the user.

Discover Platinum Card provides 5% cash back on purchases made at select merchants or in certain categories throughout the year. You will get up to 1% cash back on all other purchases made using the card. Besides, you can increase your cash back bonus when you redeem your cash rewards for gift cards or certificates from the company’s partners. Certain circumstances, such as account closure and inactivity for more than 36 months, however, could result in forfeiture of some or all your cash back bonus.

The Annual Percentage Rate or APR is 0% for all purchases till the last day of the billing period. After that the standard APR (estimated between 11.24% and 18.24%) is charged. Balance transfer APR is 0% till the last day of the billing period. Post this period, the standard APR is charged. For defaulters, the rate is between 16.24% and 28.99% and is decided on the basis of their payment history. For cash advances, the APR varies between 20.99% and 22.99% based on what Discover Card you have.

A 25 day (or more) grace period or interest-free period is also there for Discover Platinum Card holders. Credit limit for Discover Platinum Card is $5,000 and $1000 for Discover Gold/Classic Card. The two cycle average daily balance method is applied to determine the card holder’s charges. This method is slightly costlier than the more commonly used daily average balance. The Discover Platinum Card has no annual fee. Also, there is no charge for additional cards on one account. You can share all the benefits of the cards with your family members with the additional cards issued in your name.

The fee for every cash advance transaction with this card is 3%. It charges late fee of $15 on balances up to $500, and $39 on balances over $500. Its over limit fee is $15 on balances up to $500, and $39 on balances over $500. You will get air travel accident insurance and rental car collision coverage with this card. Some of the other benefits that the user of discover cards can receive are different card designs, online access to account information, emergency replacement of cards, protection against fraud, Insurance for auto rental, travel accident insurance up to $500,000. The company also provides easy account management options. Its online account options provide you timely reminders about fees and charges.

Discover Financial Services a variety of other cards including the Discover Gold Card, the Discover Platinum Card, The Miles Card from Discover Card and an array of affinity cards. These cards, intended for meeting the different needs of people, have several benefits and incentives.

It is suggested that if you are applying for any of the Discover Cards, you compare the benefits with other cards. Do a little research in the internet before going for the card. Also, you should understand the various jargons and terms like APR, fees, annual charges, cash back bonus, gift certificates etc, mentioned in the application form. If you do not understand any of the term and condition of the card, ask the customer care service for details, they will help you understand.

Also, credit cards have both advantages and disadvantages. The users should be aware of the pros and cons if they have applied or now using the credit cards. The cards may be an easy solution to the cash crunch, but if misused you will fall under debt trap.

Smart Things to Consider When Traveling for Business

There are many different types of reward program’s out there on offer from airlines, to hotels to rental cars to name just afew. It’s a lucrative service offered by many companies in order to pay respect to the loyalty of a customer. A way to say Thanks basically and have you returning back for more. Most programs are free to join. It is free for the most basic program. Within each program though, there maybe different tier levels you can join up too again which are paid, so check this out before joining as well and choose a program you are most likely to Travel with frequently and look into it’s benefits.

Enroll yourself in a Frequent flyer program if you travel to a particular city often. I would suggest that you sign up for ALL the free mileage points/loyalty programs you come across that would be of benefit to you. If you’re using online sites like Expedia and CheapOair, it’s likely you’ll be traveling with two different airlines so you can be earning points on both. It would be advantageous also though to accumulate as many points as you can under the one frequent flyer program so you can redeem points quicker. You would be best to use the frequent flyer program you travel with the most eg United airlines Mileage Plus Program or bmi whatever airline it maybe. Don’t forget to also keep your boarding passes with you until your statement has arrived so you can cross check all points have been received.

An even faster way to accumulate points is by joining a credit card rewards program such as the Platinum or Gold Card with American Express. Having a Platinum may also mean you can use almost all of the airline clubs on the day you fly that airline. This works great when you’re flying multiple airlines. Also, Platinum may also reimburse some of your expenses for checked baggage or onboard food purchases when using the card. Warning: There are fees to be a platinum member as well, but the program itself far outweighs the annual fee particularly for those that travel frequently. Use it to pay all your bills as well and earn points, but just ensure that you pay the credit card bill off in full each month so not to accumulate interest charges. Benefits vary from country to country as well so read through all the details carefully.
